IT RAINED!!!

Praise God! It had been looking like rain all day and even started a little in the late morning. Then finally this afternoon it really rained! It wasn't a gully-washer but it rained for a long time and is still raining off and on. This kind of rain doesn't bring the most water but it does get the ground more saturated. Thank you all for your prayers. Please pray that the rains will continue and fill up all the water holes!

A Little Rain

This afternoon we were all excited when we heard it start to rain (as seen on leaves in photo). Unfortunately, it didn't last more than 5 minutes - if that. We are hoping that more is to follow, please continue helping us pray for rain! We need it so desperately!

Pray for Rain

Well, the guys have worked to get ready for rain but as of yet we have had none. Things are very dry here and people are losing hope of having any harvest. Please help us pray for long, gentle rains for this area.

Preparing for Rain and More Trees

Since we often get rain (sometimes hurricanes) in September the guys have been getting ready, in the case of flooding, to protect the current trees and capture as much water as possible so they can plant new ones. They are loving the tiller that Manis got in the US as it saves them from having to do that work with a hoe.

Church Building Update: The Walls are Up... Completely!

The walls went up a week ago, but they still had to do the tops of the windows and a few more rows of block. Now they are done with that, so the walls are all finished!

Girls Camp... Final Program

Last night was the closing program for camp. The girls presented what they had learned and Manis judged all the food!

The girls from Port-au-Prince left at 3:00 this morning to return home. Please pray that God will use what they learned in their lives and that they will continue to grow in their relationship with Him.

Girls Camp... Earings!

Today the girls made their earings. The seven beads are to remind them of the seven points they learned in their Bible Study (see Bible Study post).

Church Building Update...The Walls Are Up!!

The walls are up!!!
After the last block was laid all the men got together to thank God for giving them strength them and keeping them safe while they worked (top picture). The community is so thrilled to have gotten this far. Thank you to all of you who have participated to make this possible. Please continue to pray with us for the completion of the church building.

Girls Camp... Bible Study

Ginger Muchmore taught the girls from Titus 2:4-5 what it means to be godly women. There are 7 points in those verses that they studied: love their husbands, love their children, be self-controlled, be pure, be busy at home, be kind, and be subject to their husbands. On the last day of camp the girls will make earings with 7 beads representing these 7 points so that they will have something to remind them of what them learned.

Girls Camp... Cooking

Ginger Muchmore and Dadithe Dilus alternated days of teaching American and Haitian cooking. The girls loved learning new recipes and especially tasting what they'd made! The married women were especially excited to learn to make granola as it can be an affordable and nutritious breakfast for their families.

Girls Camp... Embroidery and Flowers

Bonita Sparling and Dadithe Dilus taught the girls how to embroider and how to make tissue paper flowers. We hope that by exposing them to different skills they will gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.

Girls Camp... Dance!

In the afternoons Lara Berry taught world dance to whatever girls were interested. They learned Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and West African Dance. They also showed Lara some of their own styles of dance!

Girls Camp

Two weeks of girls camp are drawing to a close. Twenty teenage girls and 4 married women have learned cooking, embroidery, paper-flower making, English and dance. They have also been following a Bible study every evening with Ginger Muchmore. This weekend they will have a closing program to present what they have learned. Please pray for these girls that they will grow through this experience and that they will learn to get along with each other despite differences.

Summer Activities

A big thank you to Andrew Ironside and Jessie Gibson for their work here this summer. Andrew led a soccer tournament for young guys from the Plateau and surrounding areas. Jessie was a great help in getting the house set up and encouraging the church.
